What’s In my bag?

The number one question that ladies ask when they want to start a project but have no idea where to begin is “what tools do I buy”.

I have several tool boxes. One for screws and bits, one for painting, one for doing sheetrock work, one for doing trim work etc.

All tools come in numerous brands, these are currently the brands I use. These are the items I carry in my tool bag that I carry everyday because I tend to use these items constantly.

Every tool bag needs a Philips and flat head screw driver.  The square you see is a magnet. I can slide the screwdriver in and out and it magnetizes the screw driver to assis you in holding the screw on the end of the screwdriver. If you have a small magnet you can also just attach it to the screwdriver. After you drop a screw 15 times, you’ll see this is a great tip.

I always work with 2 (two) drills.  One will do the job but two is for convenience so I don’t have to constantly change bits. I use one with a bit that allows me to pre drill a hole for the screws I’m using and the other with a bit that allows me to put in the screws in my project.

Although I have several tools that use the same battery you really need to have a battery for each tool. Otherwise you’ll have 2 VERY frustrating problems.

Problem # 1- When the battery gives out you’ll have stop working until it charges. Problem # 2- As you switch back and forth with your tools you’ll have to keep switching the batteries from tool to tool. This is the voice of experience, it will drive you to pull out your hair😂.

This is a square. I’m always cutting wood.  A square allows you to get a straight line on a voice of wood and allows you to make a box perfectly square.  We have other post explaining how to use this tool.

My trusty pry bar and pliers. If you’re building anything with wood, you’ll need these babies. They are both must have tools.

Clamps are a must. I have many clamps in several sizes but the ones I keep close are these small ones. There’s always something that needs to be clamped down. Once you get started, you’ll see.

Ever tried to use a flashlight and can’t get it to shine in just the right spot? Problem solved!  A headlight. This is invaluable. There are numerous brands to try. This one from @lowes gets the job done for me.

No tool bag is complete without a good utility knife. A good knife is one that allows you to change the blade without having to take screws out of the knife. We’ll address that in a future post.
